How to work with word documents


Microsoft Word has a variety of options for how you want your document to look. This article will cover how to work with word documents, including how to make changes, create headers and footers, and more.


How to Open a Document


Assuming you have Microsoft Word installed on your computer, you can open a document by doing the following:


1. Click on the Start button in the lower left-hand corner of your screen.

2. Select All Programs.

3. Scroll down and select Microsoft Word.

4. Once Microsoft Word opens, click on File in the upper left-hand corner of the screen.

5. Select Open from the drop-down menu.

6. A window will pop up asking you to locate the file you wish to open. Find the file and click on it once so it becomes highlighted. 

7. Once it is highlighted, click on the Open button in the lower right-hand corner of the window. The document will now open in Microsoft Word for you to work on!


How to Save Documents


There are many ways to save a Microsoft Word document. The most common format is .docx, but you can also save files as .rtf, .txt, or .odt, among other formats. To save a copy of your document in another format:


1. Click File > Save As.

2. In the "Save As" dialog box, select the format you want from the "Save as type" drop-down list.

3. Choose a location for the file, then click Save.


If you want to make sure your document is compatible with an older version of Word, you can save it as a .doc file. To do this:


1. Click File > Save As.

2. In the "Save As" dialog box, click the "save as type" drop-down list and select Word 97-2003 Document (*.doc). 

3. Choose a location for the file, then click Save.


How to Insert Text


There are several ways to insert text into a Word document. The most common way is to simply click where you want the text to appear and start typing.


You can also copy and paste text from another source, such as a web page or another Word document. To do this, highlight the text you want to copy, then press Ctrl+C (Windows) or Command+C (Mac) to copy it. Next, click where you want the text to appear in your document and press Ctrl+V (Windows) or Command+V (Mac) to paste it.


If you want to insert a large amount of text, such as a block of lorem ipsum placeholder text, you can use the "Insert Text" feature. To do this, click the "Insert" tab on the ribbon, then click "Text" in the "Text" group. Finally, click "Insert Text" and type or paste your text into the box that appears.


How to Edit Text


There are many ways that you can edit text within a word document. The most common method is to use the built-in editing tools within the program.


To edit text, simply click on the text that you want to change and start typing. You can also use the delete key to remove text, or the backspace key to delete characters one at a time.


If you want to move a piece of text, simply click and drag it to the new location. You can also copy and paste text by using the keyboard shortcuts Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V.


There are also a number of advanced editing options available in word processors, such as changing the font type, size, or color; adding hyperlinks; and inserting images. To access these options, simply click on the menu icon (usually an arrow or a cog) and select "Edit."


-How to Format Text


To format text in a word document, you can use the various tools in the ribbon at the top of the page. To change the font, size, or color of your text, use the options in the Font section. You can also apply other formatting options, such as bold, italics, or underlining, from this section.


To change the alignment of your text, use the options in the Paragraph section. You can align your text to the left, right, center, or justify it. You can also change the indentation of your paragraphs from this section.


To add lists to your document, use the options in the Lists section. You can create bulleted or numbered lists from here.


You can also insert images and other media into your document from the Insert tab. Here you will find options for adding pictures, shapes, charts, and more.


Finally, you can adjust page margins and breaks from the Page Layout tab. This is where you can also set up headers and footers for your document.
